C1 Nutrition Program: Congregate Meals

Lunch is served at the Senior Center Monday through Friday from 11:30am to 12:30pm.

The Suggested Donation for a meal is $4.00 for Registered Seniors age 60+.
All ages are welcome to join us! A Guest Meal costs $8.00, and for a child (age 12 and under) a meal costs $4.00.

Registered Seniors are those age 60+ (and their accompanying spouse of any age) who have an AGNES Form filled out (front and back) and on file with the Shoshoni Senior Center within the last year. You must renew your registration each year. For example, if you register on 1/17/2025, you will be asked to renew the paperwork on 1/1/2026 or whenever you first visit us after that date.

We try hard to have enough food for everyone each day. Because our daily meal count can vary widely, sometimes we do run out of food when more people come to eat than we anticipate. We operate on a first-come-first-served basis, but we prioritize seniors 60+ over guests and staff when the remaining meals are limited. Making a reservation is not required, but especially if you are coming with a group, it helps if you let us know you will be coming.
Meals in takeout containers must be requested in advance, as explained below.

Leftovers

You may take home uneaten food from the Senior Center at your own risk. Please consume within two hours, or refrigerate immediately and consume within three days from the day the meal was served. You are encouraged to bring your own containers, but small boxes or baggies are sometimes available at the Senior Center. However, our to-go packaging cannot be used for this purpose as it is purchased through a separate program.

Takeout Meals

Takeout Meals are in to-go packaging for pickup at the Senior Center, by the registered senior recipient of the meal. You must request a Takeout Meal in advance by calling us by 9:00 AM. These meals are put together before serving time. Takeout meals became an option in 2020, when congregate meals were not possible. Not all senior centers continue to provide this service because of the rising costs of packaging and the additional strain on limited staff, so help us to continue offering this service by abiding by our policy that Takeout Meals must be requested by 9:00 AM.

Frozen Meals

Frozen Meals are available to purchase for $2 each or three for $5. Frozen meals can be purchased from leftovers of previous meals, but not the current day’s meal. Availability varies, so check the freezer in the dining room to see what is available. Frozen meals are available on a first-come-first-served basis as they are placed in the freezer, and we will not hold them for you to pickup later. We limit frozen meal purchases to 9 frozen meals per week to help ensure that there will be enough for everyone who wants them.

  • Purchase at least six frozen meals to receive a FREE Shoshoni Senior Center branded insulated tote. These work great for carrying our frozen meals. Limit of one free bag per person. A tote can also be purchased for $5. Ask for them at the front counter. We have other fun Shoshoni Senior Center merchandise available to purchase, including T-Shirts, hoodies, coffee mugs, and wrist strap keychains.
Home Delivered Meals

Home Delivered Meals are available for seniors who have difficulty coming to the Senior Center for a meal, who live within five miles of Shoshoni. There is an additional page of the AGNES Form that must be filled out each year to evaluate need and qualify for this program. These meals are usually delivered by volunteers. Let us know if you can help deliver meals. It’s a great way to serve those in need in our community.

  • We can also provide home delivered meals through the Medicaid Community Choices Waiver program. We receive these Service Requests through your Medicaid Case Manager.

Sign in with MySeniorCenter for Meals and Other Services

Registered patrons will receive a MySeniorCenter keycard. We use the MySeniorCenter system for everyone to sign in for what they are participating in at the Senior Center, which saves office staff a lot of time every month and improves the accuracy of our reports, which support our funding.

When you enter the Senior Center, there is a touchscreen on the front counter with a scanner next to it. The sign in process is simple, and we are here to help you if needed.

  • Swipe the barcode on the back of your keycard in front of the scanner.
  • Then you should see your first name at the top left of the touchscreen.
  • Select everything that you will be participating in for the day.
  • Make sure to always select the Finish button at the bottom of the screen.

If you need to change your selections, you can swipe your keycard again.

If there is an error message, it is usually because your registration has expired. AGNES Forms must be renewed each year and are available on the front counter. Office staff can assist you with this form as needed. If you have a MySeniorCenter keycard from another senior center, you can use it here too, but we will need to connect your keycard number to your profile in our database. For privacy reasons, senior centers do not have access to each other’s MySeniorCenter databases.

Meal Tickets for the Nutrition Programs

Yellow Meal Tickets for our nutrition programs are available to purchase in packs of five for $20.00. Since many of the yellow tickets have seen better days, we are planning to refresh them sometime soon with new tickets! We will continue to accept the yellow tickets.

More Information about Menu and Nutrition Programs

We can accept payment by cash, check, or card. There is a gray box for meal donations on the front counter, and office staff or a volunteer are available if you need change, to pay for a guest meal, to buy meal tickets or frozen meals, or need help signing in with the MySeniorCenter system.

A registered dietician approves our menus. She also provides quarterly Nutrition Education handouts, and referral for remote Nutrition Counseling is available upon request and is encouraged if you nutritional risk score from the back for the AGNES form is high. If you have any questions about our menu and nutrition services, please call the Senior Center. Additionally, you can check our monthly Newsletter to see what else is going on at the Senior Center.

Visit the Wyoming Department of Health’s website for more information about Nutrition Services and the Title III-C1 and C2 Nutrition Programs. We apply for federal and state funding (with a required percentage of local “match” funding) through these programs and are awarded up to a certain amount to be reimbursed for program expenses each fiscal year, which we can utilize only after the Program Income is spent first. Program income is the the voluntary contributions or “suggested donation” from the program recipients.
